Varsity Letter Requirements
The varsity head coach shall recommend the members of his/her team/squad who have met the requirements for a varsity letter, plaque/award with approval from the Athletics Office.
General Letter Requirements
- Attendance: Students should attend all practices and games, unless excused by the head coach
- Sportsmanship: Students should realize that they are representing their school and community and should conduct themselves in such a manner that they are unquestionable assets to both. Ejections and suspensions could keep a student from receiving a varsity letter.
- Adherence to rules and regulations: students must abide by the rules and regulations as set forth by the head coach and athletic department.
- Students who discontinue participation forfeit all awards and recognition they may receive.
Specific Letter Requirements
- Baseball and Softball- pitchers must participate in 25% of the innings or ⅓ of the games played. Other participants must play ½ (50%) of the games played.
- Boys and Girls Basketball- must participate in ½ (50%) of varsity quarters.
- Cheerleaders- Must cheer a full season.
- Boys and Girls Cross Country- must participate in ½ (50%) of the meets.
- Football- must participate in ½ (50%) of varsity quarters or play on special teams
- Golf- must participate in ½ (50%) of the matches
- Marching Band- Students will automatically earn a yearly varsity letter when they fully participate in all performances and rehearsals from June to December
- Boys and Girls Swimming- must score a minimum of 40 points throughout the regular season, not including invitationals or relays.
- Boys and Girls Indoor Track/Field- Place within the top 16 at an invitational/make it to finals in an event
- Boys and Girls Outdoor Track/Field:
- Freshman/First year participants: must average one (1) point per meet
- Upperclassman: must average two (2) points per meet
- Volleyball- must participate in ½ (50%) of varsity matches
- Wrestling- must participate in ½ (50%) of varsity matches, including team and individual tournaments
- Team Managers- must manage a full season
Letterman Jackets
- Students are eligible for a letterman jacket after one letter is earned in any varsity of sport/marching band.
- Participants may be awarded a letter/letterman jacket on service as a senior, provided he/she has completed three (3) full seasons of participation in that particular sport/activity but has not achieved the specific letter requirements. This can be awarded at a coaches discretion.
- Participants not lettering due to injury and/or illness during a particular season can be designated as a letterman by the head coach with approval from the athletic director.
- Students are responsible for purchasing their own letterman jackets. Students can try on jackets any time throughout the school year in the athletics' office.
