Therapy Dog Program at SRAE

Slippery Rock Area Elementary School is happy to announce the addition of a new staff member...Cash, the Canine Counselor! Carisa Takac, our school counselor, and her cavapoo, Cash, are our new therapy dog team. Ms. Takac and Cash have undergone extensive training, are fully insured, and Cash is certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Therapy dogs are trained with their owner to promote emotional well-being for staff and students. Research has shown that therapy dogs increase school attendance and task completion, support social-emotional and academic growth, increase a sense of school-connectedness and reduce stress and anxiety. Cash is up-to-date with all of his shots and is considered "hypoallergenic". He attends school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and works with students in various ways throughout the day. We are excited to welcome Cash to SRAE, and he is excited to welcome our students!
