How Can I Practice Spelling and Vocabulary Words? Below are some ideas! Make it fun!!!
Roll that Dice: Roll the dice. Write your word as many times as the dice shows (one to six times).
Sand Writing: Write your words in sand. You can write them in a sand box, or spread a small amount of sand on a flat surface (lunch trays work great!). Colored sand can be purchased online or at any craft store.
Word Dictionary: Include words and illustrations! Create your own dictionary.
Let Your Light Shine: Tape your words to the back of your bedroom door. Before bed each night, shine a flashlight on each word. Read the word aloud to your parent.
Memory: Play Memory with a parent. Write your words on index cards. Make two sets of words.
3-D Words: Use play dough or clay to sculpt words.
ABC Order: Write your words in ABC Order.
Air Write: Write your words in the air, using your finger. Have a partner guess your word.
Back Writing: Use your finger to spell out each of your words, one letter at a time, on your mom or dad’s back. Then it’s YOUR turn to identify the words as mom or dad writes them on your back.
Bubble Letters: Write each of your words in bubble letters. After you finish, color your words in with crayon or colored pencil.
Cheer Your Words: Pretend you are a cheerleader and call out your words! Make up moves to go along with them!
Clean Words: Find a countertop or flat surface that can be cleaned easily. Spray a small amount of shaving cream and spread it out. Write your words in the shaving cream and be sure to clean up afterwards!
Rainbow Words: Write each of your words in the colors of the rainbow. The colors should overlap. When you’ve finished, your words will look like rainbows!
Connect The Dots: Write your words in dots. Then, connect the dots by tracing over them with a colored pencil.

Make Some Music: Write a song or rap that includes your words! Share with a friend or family member.
Pasta Words: Arrange alphabet pasta or Alphabits Cereal to form your spelling words.
Popsicle Words: Form your words using popsicle sticks, toothpicks, Q-tips, markers, or anything thin and straight.
Practice Test: Take a practice test. Have your mom or dad ask you to spell your spelling words. Write them on a list. Check your practice test and correct any missed words. This would be an especially good activity to complete on a Thursday night!
Rhyming Words: Write each of your words. Next to each word, write a rhyming word, or draw a picture of something that rhymes. If necessary, your rhyming words can be nonsense words.
Scrabble: Use Scrabble tiles to spell out your spelling words. For a little extra math practice (optional), figure out the value of each of your words.
