As the sun begins to shine brighter and the temperatures rise, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our high school summer externships for the upcoming season!

At Robert Morris University, we believe in creating unforgettable academic experiences that nurture creativity, build confidence, and foster lifelong friendships. Our diverse range of high school externships cater to every interest, ensuring that there's something for everyone.

In addition to the amazing career exploration content, it will also be an opportunity to engage with high school students from Pittsburgh’s sister city Saitama, Japan for a true multicultural experience. 

Here's a glimpse of what we have in store:

Lego Design & Robotics Externship: Participants will learn to design and create their own LEGO sets. They will be instructed in how to use digital design software to make 2D and 3D LEGO creations virtually and then generate step by step instructions for building the sets. The participants will also get to make their creations come to life by building them. They will even get to keep the mosaics that they build and the digital copies of the instruction booklets that they created. Participants will also construct LEGO robots using the LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor set and explore their programming capabilities to solve problems and accomplish tasks.

Sports Communication Externship: Working individually and in teams, students interested in sports media or sports management careers will explore sports writing, reporting, interviewing, play-by-play, management, marketing and promotions, and engineering in an engaging and professionally focused environment. This year's program will also include several social experiences with Japanese  high school students. 

Entertainment Design Externship: Love creating immersive theatrical experiences?

Imagine a future working for Walt Disney Imagineering, Universal Studios CreativE museums, zoos, escape rooms, or haunted houses! Whether you are already an artist or just wanting to explore this creative field, this study will launch your skills and imagination to the next level.  Entertainment Design Externship will inspire you to think and create in new ways and introduce you to career fields that you never imagined possible.

International Business Externship: Embark on a global business adventure! This immersive experience in international business, cultural intelligence, and mouthwatering international cuisine will also enrich your computer programming experience and help you bridge the gap between numbers and words.

The Future of Healthcare Externship: RMU's nursing and engineering departments will co-host this summer externship, providing unique experiences to students who are interested in healthcare related careers. Students will have the opportunity to learn about careers in healthcare and will participate in hands-on activities such as measurement and analysis of bodily systems and signals, analysis of medical images (CT and MRI), design of helmets to prevent concussions, and design of medical implants for trauma cases.

Get Your Head in the Commercial Real Estate Game: The NAIOP Pittsburgh – RMU CRE Summer Multi-cultural Experience will introduce students to career possibilities in commercial real estate (CRE), building a pipeline of talent in Pittsburgh CRE. NAIOP Pittsburgh and Robert Morris University present a unique learning experience that will immerse up to 25 rising juniors/seniors in the world of CRE. No cost. Application Process.
