FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Rock Ed Camp Slated for Slippery Rock Area School District

Slippery Rock, PA – March 27, 2019

Slippery Rock High School Assistant Principal, Kristen Czubiak, has the chief responsibility of seeing that her students are following school rules and maintaining satisfactory attendance during the school year.  As a professional educator and instructional leader, she also works closely with high school principal, Cory Hake, as well as the school district’s administrative team to find ways to improve student achievement and professional development for staff.  From this, her idea of Rock Ed Camp was born.

“I felt the timing was right for our teachers to share best practices in teaching and learning with one another.  The idea of providing a professional setting for such a sharing of ideas in our school district seemed like the right thing to do,” said Czubiak.

Rock Ed Camp will feature various educator presenters from throughout the Slippery Rock Area School District.  Teachers and school administrators will plan and facilitate a variety of sessions for the conference.  Educators will be able to choose from multiple sessions ranging from college and career readiness, technology integration and applications, as well as STEM lesson-planning, to name a few.

“We have such a talented and gifted staff.  I’m so happy that we have had such great interest in facilitating the sessions from teachers at all grade levels and departments,” Czubiak stated.  “It is exciting to think that their ideas for successful teaching and learning will be shared with one another.”

The camp will take place on July 23 and 24 from 7:30am to 12:30pm each day at Slippery Rock Middle School.   Both days will kick off with keynote speakers.  Dr. John Rindy, Director of the Career Education and Development at Slippery Rock University will headline the opening session while Dr. William Behre, President of Slippery Rock University, will serve as the keynote for day two.

The cost for participation is $125 per person and $75 for current college students.  Continuing professional development hours are available for all attendees.   Sponsors such as Horace Mann, NexTier Bank, Slippery Rock Area School District Education Foundation, SRUFCU, and the Tri-County Workforce Development Board made monetary donations or distributed grant funding to help defray registration costs and aid in the supplies for the sessions.

All participants will receive a copy of the book, The Innovator’s Mindset by George Couros, as well as giveaway prizes throughout each day.  Interested educators may still register by visiting the school district web site or by calling the assistant principal’s office at the high school.
